Ye are built upon the foundation of the
apostles and prophets
Each building, whatever nature
it may be, lays on a foundation. The strength of the structure depends
entirely of the quality of the foundation. The body of Christ is not exempt
this rule. Consequently, Christians who are members of the body, make up the
Church, whom Christ the Messiah, is the head. And the strength of the body
is closely conditioned by the
depth of the bond that unite the members one to another.
Generally, in order for a strong body to exist, it is
essential for its members to be in full adhesion in something or someone.
This also goes
for the Church : she is strong if its members cling to the same thing or
same person.
The study of scriptures, even basic, categorically shows that
the Church does not rest on any kind of foundation.
Indeed, we
learn in 1Corinthians 3:11
that no man can lay another foundation than
that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Few books
further, in the epistle to the Ephesians, Paul remains us that ye are
built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself
being the chief corner stone.
We
realize it, there is no room left here for any debate. Moreover, this also
applies in the Churches of God.
Consequently, if all Christians simply rest on the apostles’
and the prophets’ foundation, whom Jesus-Christ is the chief corner stone,
then the body of Christ becomes unmovable
! For it
to be done, the Church has in hands a guideline : the Scriptures.
The bible
teaches us of their four purposes :
- for doctrine
- for reproof
- for
correction
- for
instruction
That way, it prevents us to be
tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine.
All in all, the only legitimate foundation is the one of the
apostles and the prophets, whom Christ is the base. There cannot be another
one neither can anyone lays a foundation other that
the one already in place : Jesus Christ.
